Boarding Information

We are proud to announce the opening of our new Cat Condos!  Let your cat stay with us in style and comfort in their own private suite while your family is away.  The Cat Condos are located on a separate floor from the regular veterinary office.  With a pleasing environment and windows for natural light, your cat won't even miss you - well, maybe just a little.  But you will feel secure in the comfort that your pet is happy and well taken care of in your absence.  Our Cat Condos are just $16/night.

Plus we have regular boarding facilities for dogs and cats.  Dogs are $18/night and cats are $13/night.  Give us a call and reserve your next vacation!

Grooming Information

At Companion Animal Hospital, we proudly offer full service all-breed grooming.  We know you will be pleased with the results of our groomer, Kasey Waldroup who grooms many of our clients' pets on a regular basis.  We would like to take time to share with you some questions about grooming.  After looking through them, please call anytime and schedule an appointment for your pet and meet Kasey.  We look forward to seeing you!

Grooming of your pet should be a realistic approach to style, appropriate for both the pet and you.  Communicating with the groomer will insure your satisfaction with our service.

What is the difference in having a pet groomed in a Veterinary setting versus a Pet Shop or Salon?

  1. Peace of mind.  Having your pet professionally groomed in a veterinary setting gives you the assurance that while your pet is with us, he or she will be in the hands of caring pet professionals that can act in the event of an unexpected emergency.
  2. Treatment of a condition or illness that may be noticed by the groomer or staff member and brought to the doctors' attention.
  3. Convenience.  One stop for all your pets' needs from vaccinations to food and boarding, and, of course, reliability of the hospital staff.
  4. Medications to calm an anxious or aggressive pet.  This is a last resort option and is only done with owner consent, but may make the experience less traumatic for your pet.

What is the difference in price?

  1. In a grooming shop, the owners set their fees based on volume - the more animals, the cheaper the cost.  However, quality may dwindle with typical employee turnover.
  2. Fees for grooming in a veterinary setting are higher.  Professionals charge professional prices, and quality is consistent.  Better products for bathing, ear cleaning, etc are used in accordance with the pets' specific needs.

How often should my pet be groomed?

  1. Any breed that has a coat that continually grows should visit the groomer every six to eight weeks regularly.
  2. Breeds with short coats that stop growing (such as Labradors or Beagles) should be bathed every eight to twelve weeks..

What is the done by the Groomer?

  1. When your pet is about to be groomed, the groomer does a hands on look at the coat, ears, skin, etc to check for anything they see that may be abnormal.  If any thing is found, they are reported to the Veterinarian.
  2. Then the pet is clipped, brushed, nails trimmed, and anal glands excreted.
  3. Finally, the pet is bathed, table dried, finish clipped, and ready to go home.

I have a large, outside dog.  What about having it groomed?

  1. Large dogs living outside can get really messy!  Breeds with heavy coats (like Collies, Chow Chows, and Spaniels) should be professionally groomed twice per year.  Since their coats are dense, moisture can accumulate in the undercoat that is very close to the skin and cause many problems such as ulcerations and infection!
  2. Shaving these breeds twice per year is recommended - once in the spring and again in late summer.  Living outside, they are used to the temperatures, so having your pet shaved will not make him cold, only comfortable.

I have a dog with long hair, but I don't have time to brush it!?

  1. If you schedule is hectic or you just don't want to brush your cat or dog, you should take it to the groomer.  Long coated breeds can tangle quickly, and the tangles will just get bigger!
  2. The groomer can discuss the options you have to help you and your pet be comfortable and happy..

I can't afford to spend a lot.  How can I maintain my pet on a budget?

  1. This is the most common grooming question of all.  The groomer will keep yours and your pets interest in mind and can help you choose an appropriate clip to make the pet comfortable.  A shorter style may be the answer, with return grooming visits every twelve weeks, instead of eight.
